The Portugal D2 Visa, also known as the Startup Visa is aimed at non-EU entrepreneurs or self-employed professionals who want to invest in a business here in Portugal.  Either by buying a local company or it’s shares or creating a branch of an existing entity. A further option is to create a new company whilst providing a detailed business plan.

This programme can lead to Portuguese citizenship and is designed to attract high net-worth individuals to invest in the Portuguese economy. 

No minimum investment threshold is designed for the D2 Visa. However applicants must prove they have sufficient funds to start and run their business.

The D2 Visa duration is 2 years and can be extended. To maintain your residency, you’re required to spend a significant amount of time in Portugal—a continuous period of 18 months, or a total of 16 months within the 2-year timeframe.
